How and when to reset your goals
6 steps to resetting your goals

Well, here we are, the start of a new quarter.
25% of the way through 2024 😳
How did that happen?!
And, if you’re like most of us, 2024 may not have gone accordingly to plan!
The good news is that you can reset anytime. And for me, I love a new week, a new month or a new quarter to start fresh.
If you need to reset or perhaps simply adjust your goals and your plans for Q2, here’s where you can start:
6 steps to resetting your goals
1. Recap and reflect
If you know me, or have been following me for some time, you likely know that I’m 100% Irish, born and raised 🍀
Hindsight is the best insight to foresight
Look back at Q1. Look at your goals. Look at your monthly report, and your quarterly report. How did you do?
Where did you win? Where did you fall short? And, most importantly, what can you learn from it?
In an ideal world, you had a handful of experiments with your marketing. What hypothesis did you test? What did you learn from that?
What changes impacted your results? Perhaps changes within your own business, maybe the marketplace or simply the industry as a whole?
A key question, in my opinion, is did you have an accountability partner?
That may be the make or break, once you have a solid strategy and plan in place that is 😉
2. Reiterate your WHY
Get clear on your vision again. Your why. Why are you doing what you do?!
This doesn’t change, but it’s the best place to start whether you are setting your goals for the first time or resetting.
As an entrepreneur, or as a marketer, you’ll have to come back to this time and time again.
3. Look at the long term
For me, the days of setting 5 or 10 year goals are gone! With the way the world is changing so fast, setting 1 year goals, in my opinion, is a good place to start. Where do you want to be in one year?
So if you need to, reset or set, your annual goals.
4. Identify what is getting in the way
Before we set the quarterly goals, let’s look at why you are not hitting your goals currently. What is getting in the way?
Is it operational issues? Scaling? Maybe it’s even the fundamentals aren’t in place. One of my strong beliefs is that you have to have a strong strategy in place with the right foundation set. Then you can scale and grow! So back to potential issues, do you have the right foundation in place?
This may turn out to be a relatively big list, but that’s ok. Get it all out there.
This is important because fixing one or two of these issues may end up being one of your quarterly goals.
5. Create quarterly goals
With your annual goals set and the list of issues getting in your way, it’s time to set your quarterly goals.
I’d suggest limiting to 3 goals.
Otherwise, you’ll end up with a lot of “to-do’s” instead of a few clear priorities.
6. Make your goals actionable
Ah, my favorite part! 🙌
This is where the rubber hits the road. Assuming the right goals are set, now it’s time to make them actionable.
What are the actions you are going to do on a weekly or daily basis that moves those goals along?
And, as I shared earlier, who is going to hold you accountable?! ✨
If you made it this far, thank YOU! I will happily provide you with a goal setting worksheet you can use to set or reset your goals - simply reply with a thumbs up!
As a friendly reminder:
I’m rooting for you!
Til next week 👋
